What is an aneurysm? Causes, symptoms, and when to seek help.

Some pains rightly worry us. But there's a word, often shrouded in mystery: aneurysm. Behind this somewhat vague medical term lies a reality that's essential to understand better, not to be alarmed, but to know when and how to respond. Because in these kinds of situations, information can truly make a difference.

What exactly is an aneurysm?

Imagine a small balloon forming on the wall of an artery: that's an aneurysm. It's a weakened section of a blood vessel that dilates abnormally. If this dilation becomes too severe, it risks rupturing and causing internal bleeding. But not all aneurysms rupture: some remain silent throughout their lives and never cause any problems.

What if the aneurysm ruptures?

In this case, it is a medical emergency. The rupture causes internal bleeding that can be severe without prompt treatment. The symptoms are often very clear:
    • Loss of consciousness.
    • Sudden difficulty speaking or moving one side of the body.
    • Sudden, severe and unusual pain.

    When should you consult?

    • As soon as an unusual, sudden and very severe pain occurs.
    • In sudden neurological disorders: loss of vision, difficulty speaking, muscle weakness on one side of the body.
    • If a loved one shows these symptoms, call 15 or 911 immediately.
    • If you have a family history of aneurysms or strokes, discuss this with your doctor. A simple test like an ultrasound or CT scan can sometimes detect an aneurysm that has gone unnoticed.

      What about aneurysm?

Goed nieuws: het is mogelijk om de risico's te verminderen. Yesterday it's simple, but it's easy to say:

      • Please note that the temperature will be adjusted for about 30 minutes.
